On Wednesday 1st November 2023, 96 Shenley Road Community Hub celebrated 10 years servicing the community in Borehamwood.
The community hub is a multi-purpose building housing the Town Library, a Youth Service area, Elstree and Borehamwood Museum, meeting rooms as well as a main hall, which is ideal for hosting events. The building is the result of an innovative partnership between Hertfordshire County Council, Hertsmere Borough Council, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, and All Saints Church, Borehamwood.
To celebrate the 10th year anniversary the team held an event, welcoming representatives from partners, Hertfordshire County Council Chairman Cllr Terry Douris, Hertsmere Borough Council Mayor Cllr Chris Myers and Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council Deputy Mayor Cllr Alpha Collins. The event included a tour of the community hub to see firsthand the services available, including the new Story Tree in the children’s section of the library.
The event also included spending time with the DR96 elderly social group who meet every Wednesday morning in the main hall. InspireAll Leisure & Family Support Services are honored to have been appointed the building management team since its opening in 2013, as a not-for-profit company our vision is to helping to bring the community together to live healthier happier lifestyles.
96 Shenley Road Community Hub’s building manager Peter Windsor said; “It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since we first opened the doors to the public. I’ve been here since the beginning, working as the technical manager, under my predecessor Rob Dodkin who is here today to help celebrate this milestone. Throughout the years, we’ve built up the buildings program to have a wide variety of weekly activities. Many of our hirers will also be celebrating 10 years’ service over the coming months which is a wonderful feeling.
Over the years we’ve been instrumental in helping to keep the Arts alive in Borehamwood, by being the home to Borehamwood Comedy Club and Ignite Wrestling both in partnership local promoters. In more testing times the community hub was also a key support during the Covid-19 pandemic as a location for the testing programme. The hub is also registered as a cool/warm space to help the community with the cost of living. The beauty of this building is its ability adapt to the current needs of the community”
